When I made my 30 by 30 list I could not run 10 steps but wanted to run a 10K. After getting some proper treatment for an injury, I met my goal over a year and half faster than I expected. Now I would like to reach the next marker of running a half marathon.
Since running my first 10K, I’ve run several 5Ks and ran Cooper River Bridge Run a second time. I was hoping to run the Thunder Road 1/2 Marathon here in Charlotte last year but got up to 12 miles before I strained a hamstring, entrapped a nerve in my foot and aggravated my IT band. It sidelined me for a month and a half and I did not make the race. I now want a second crack at it.
I have signed up for the 2011 Savannah Half Marathon but should injuries befall me again, I do not want to give up until I am no longer medically cleared to run. It will require better training, eating, and perseverance but I was so close and I want the medal they hand out at the end of a race. I need to complete it in under 2:30:00 for me to be satisfied in my training.
