When I was much younger, I was obsessed with birds. I can’t remember what spurred my interest but I loved everything about them. I especially loved birds of prey. My favorite was the Peregrine Falcon because it would dive bomb its prey. I knew every single local bird by age six and would correct my dad when he called a buzzard a hawk or a hawk a falcon. One of my most exciting memories was when I spotted a kestral in the wild.
I long ago gave up my fascination with birds and don’t recall them all as well as I use to be able to. However, a few years ago I ran into someone here in Charlotte, NC that worked at a place called the Raptor Center. They rehabilitate injured birds of prey so they can be released back into the wild. I have wanted to get over there and check it out as soon as I heard about it. But over the years, I never have. I would really like to make this trip even if it is by myself to check out these majestic birds and reinvigorate my childhood memories.
